Toronto 2010 Warped Tour Wrap Up
Phew... what a weekend! I dont know about you folks, but I'm about ready to crash and never get up haha. I spent this past weekend in Toronto with one of my best friends checking out the 2010 Vans Warped Tour and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. Not that I was expecting it to suck... but when I consider the lineup and compare it to past years, I have to say it was somewhat lack luster for me. And then I remembered the magic of that place... 5mins in the gate and I was home. Here are some of my highlights for the day... recommendations of what to see if you plan to catch the tour in a city near you... pricing for those of you who are curious about the money you can expect to spend on various things... the whole deal, right here!
HINT: The lineup- Great place to meet new friends. Why not strike up a conversation with the people around you? I know that the weather made for great small talk in Toronto with the torrential downpour we experienced in the morning. Be aware, if you intend to pay for tickets in line they may sell fast and price just over $50 CDN.
HINT: First thing is first... before you run off to the nearest stage, check out the schedule usually located by the main stage. Hard to miss... its huge and inflatable! Make sure you prioritize and get to see as much as you can. Dont regret it!
First up in my day I checked out the last few tracks of the We The Kings set. The boys played a great set as per usual. Very tightly knit instrumentals, great vocals, and a guest appearance by Hey Monday's Cassadee for a memorable duet. If you get the chance to watch them, definitely do. They are certainly a pop punk fan's dream, but they also know how to get the audience going.
HINT: Take a walk of the full park on your downtime. Check out the layout, get familiar with it. Its easier to find your favorite bands when you already know where the stage is. You wont miss anything looking for it! Also, check out some of the tents. Lots of cool merch and free giveaways that are worth a look. Great causes and charities also set up tents so you can learn a lot in the process of walking away with free swag.
Note: Band tees run about $15-25, Hoodies about $40-50, Pins/Patches/Bracelets about $2-5
Next up, I went over to see The Rocket Summer. I swear, Bryce Avary is a genius. I know he does it in every city, but the man can write a freaking song in seconds. He's a multi-instrumentalist, which is something I am completely floored by. It took me 5 years to play a solid flute piece, I cant even begin to fathom playing an entire bands worth of instruments perfectly! If you want something a little upbeat and fun to beat the serious metal/emo overtones of the tour, wander over to their set and smile for a bit!
About halfway through their set, I wandered off to check out the tents and found my way back to the Main Stage (This year its going by the name of Teggart, in honor of a warped tour staff veteran who passed away earlier this year) for the Bouncing Souls set. Always a great set for punk rock fans. Timeless, simple, and amazing. I saw these guys at my very first Warped seven years ago, and watching them was like reliving that day. If you're looking for some fun in a pit, be sure to check them out.
Next up I got some lunch. Price points here werent as bad as I expected. You can assume that a slice of pizza will run about $4.25 CDN... closer to $9 if you add a pop and a bag of chips.
HINT: Bring food. Sealed water bottles and wrapped sandwiches are permitted in MOST venues, so check it out online and save yourself a few bucks.
Next up, The Cab. Now, I know what you're all thinking... Rocket Summer, We The Kings, The Cab... whats with all the pop? Truth is, I will take this over some of the "metal hxc alt core" whatever you want to call it stuff that plays on some of the other stages. I actually have an appreciation for vocal talent and solid instrument harmonies so think what you will, but I dont care. It was GOOD. The Cab drew a pretty large crowd, and played a lot of great tracks off their album, as well as their upcoming release. If you're in a dancing mood, I highly recommend letting lose to their set... tracks like Bounce and One Of Those Nights will have you busting a move in no time.
After the Cab's set, I decided to head over to their tent for their impromptu signing. The guys were great, super chatty and friendly which is always a plus. Cant say the same for the screaming girls though...
HINT: Some bands dont announce signings until they close their set. If you're really hoping for some Warped Tour magic, to meet your favorite bands, wait to see if they invite fans to drop by their tent for an autograph, then deak out before the last song to snag a spot in line early. ALSO, please... remember that lines function better than mobs people. LINES. Like when we were all in Kindergarden? Remember lines? One behind the other... orderly fashion. Lines...
Once I finished up with that, I had just enough time to check out a couple tracks by both Motion City Soundtrack and Pierce The Veil. Good times. Pierce the Veil are actually on my radar for Warped. They are a lot of fun, and usually play a pretty wicked cover or two that make the set more than worthwhile. This time around they chose Drake. Good fit for us Canadians. Motion City are also a solid band worth giving a go. If you like their old stuff, they play a lot of it on tour so dont worry- they make use of their catalogue unlike some bands :)
3:45pm and the clouds were pushing further into the distance. About halfway through the day, lots more to see and do! Here is where I had my first and only real conflict for the day. You see, Bring Me The Horizon and The Pretty Reckless were set to play different areas of the park at the same time.
For all you metal fans out there... Bring Me The Horizon is a MUST SEE. These british boys know how to tear the roof off a place... even when its outdoors. They take control of the stage and crowd with incredible ease and aggression. Driving bass lines, growling vox, and vicious melodies had the crowd in a frenzy. They are also the only band I saw that day who managed to create a successful circle pit AND my personal favorite, the Wall Of Death... for those of you who dont know, Oli (singer) essentially splits the crowd like Moses did with the sea, and then when the music kicks back in, everybody runs at each other. Crazy, dangerous, but SOOO fun. They also had a crowd surfing contest, the winner walking away with a brand new, signed skateboard deck. Not bad. Never have I seen so many limbs in the air, and never have I been more afraid of feet falling from the sky and whacking me upside the head.
For those of you looking for something a little more 90s grunge era... I might suggest to you, The Pretty Reckless. So, you know Gossip Girl? The little blonde chick on the show who goes after guys twice her age and is the Queen Bee? Well, chickie is also in a band, and surprisingly, the girl has a voice! Rough, raw, edgy... this girl wowed me. Yes, the lingerie was a little over kill, the blonde extensions could use a wash, and the makeup made me think of the raccoon who digs around in my trash... but beyond all that, just focusing on the music... she's good. Youtube it if you dont believe me. I know she hates the comparison, but she really is a young, more talented Courtney Love. Watch her, she's going to be huge.
After this, I made an attempt to check out Mayday Parade, but some genius decided to put them on one of the smaller stages which was impossible to get to... or see... or hear. So needless to say, I gave up after only a few minutes of their set. I wandered around a little bit and managed to catch a bit of Dillenger Escape Plan, and meet Oliver Sykes from BMTH... even though my picture magically deleted itself from my camera. Its cool. I know it happened and it was pretty sick. After this excitement, I made the tough choice to turn down The Casualties set in order to pursue something a little more satisfying to the 14 year old burried inside me... Sum 41. Yes, ladies & gentlemen, I waited a little while by the front of the main stage to see my 9th grade favorites.
Sum 41... SO MUCH FUN. Yes, they had a lousy album with Underclass Hero, but the old stuff is still classic and insanely fun. Who gets tired of hearing Fat Lip? Not me! Any rap about back packs and dentists wins me over even years later. Out of all the sets I saw that day, they were one of the best. I think thats what happens when Candian bands play their home country on the main stage. Just like Alexisonfire and Billy Talent in previous years, the hometown heroes always win over the audience. Lots of "devil horns" up, and 41 salutes were made. Lots of jumping and moshing ensued. A good time was had by all the Toronto crowd.
Finally, as the night wound to a close and the sun began to set on yet another Warped Tour, the stage stayed standing for its final performance. The one I had anxiously been awaiting all night... Alkaline Trio. The chicago trio are some of my favorite musicians. All equally brilliant, and all true musicians. You can tell they love what they do. I actually met them at their signing earlier in the day and it was probably one of the highlights of the tour for me. Now, with all the hype I had running through my system, I have to say I was slightly let down... The problem? So much new material. I havent had a chance to pick up This Addiction yet, so I wasnt familiar with many of the tracks. I was really hoping for some older stuff. Mind you, Stupid Kid was played so I cant complain much at all. They were still the image of punk rock perfection. Perfectly in sync with each other and brimming with talent. It was a great way to end the night... sun lighting the stage so intensly it looked like flames were climbing the banners. Everyone gathered around the last standing structure, basking in the summer heat and dusty air. Grudgingly turning away to leave the park as the last notes rang out through the amps... amazing.
So that about sums up my day... get it, SUMS up? Haha I'm such a joker :P Anyways, I hope that sheds some light on the fascinating world of Warped Tour through the eyes of yours truly. An real life, summer punk rock wonderland with something for everyone to see and enjoy. If you can, check out this tour. I promise you wont regret it. If the bands all suck, at least you have the experience... again, unlike anything I could possibly describe. A united community, always welcoming new members.
Will you be checking out the tour? Have you already? Tell me your Warped Tales!

Pete Wentz and The Black Cards
Seems like everyone's favorite egotistical emo boy is back in the music game... not such a long break between FOB and his apparent new project: The Black Cards. Not much is known about this band, only what Pete has shared with us so far via online messages. The cryptic webpage, though it claims to be a non-viral campaign, is pretty much the definition of such- including only links to social networking sites and a catchy uncredited pop song. Pete claims that in the coming weeks, information will be linked and shared in a "controlled" manner for fans to make a judgement on. Personally, I am VERY worried that this could be a husband/wife collaboration. Remember folks: NEVER mix business with pleasure. Ok?
What do you think Pete is up to? Share your thoughts!

Alesana Get A New Guitarist
So what do Greeley Estates and Alesana have in common? Well, besides a similar fan base and sound, the answer is guitarist Alex Torres. Alex recently made the swap into Alesana following the departure of Jake Campbell who had been with the band since 2008. He was originally their bass player before making a quick transition the same year to lead guitar.
Top Canadian Bands You May Not Know
So today, its not so much news, but one of my rants and raves about issues related to music. Today's topic: The Canadian Music Scene. This post is inspired by the MMVAs (Much Music Video Awards) which is currently airing as a rerun on my television. I didnt have much of a chance to watch this when it first aired live because I dont have cable at my house, but now that I'm at my mother's house between shitfs, I decided to give it a go. I respect the way that they are helping Canadian artists out, its great! My only issue: I find that people have a very narrow, limited view of Canada's Music industry.
As a Canadian, I am definitely proud of our exports... including those in the entertainment industry. Over the years, Canada has provided the world with some absolutely phenomenal talent... and yes, though many of them may move to the US, that doesnt change their maple leaf roots. I bet some of them still eat ketchup chips, insist on real maple syrop and believe in beer with an actual alcohol content. All that aside, my goal in this post is to remind everyone that Canadian music DOES NOT start and end with Justin Beiber. The kid may be this generation's Aaron Carter, but he is not the embodiment of this side of the border. So here is MY personal list of fiftenn amazing Canadian bands that you may or may not already be familiar with. All these bands are the combination of fantastic musicianship, raw talent, and creativity. Lets get started! In no specific order...
15) Theset
This five piece alternative rock band hails from Victoria, BC. What draws me to these guys is their live show... high energy, lots of passion, and purely Canadian. Love it. If you dont believe me, take note that this powerhouse band has played with the likes of Metric and Sebastian Granger, a couple amazing Canadian artists. If you love live music like I do, definitely look these guys up.
Their MYSPACE page has some great songs on it, I really like Already Know for what its worth!
14) Spiral Beach
This unique group comes to us from one of Canada's more well known cities, Toronto ON. This is pop with a serious edge... its definitely a bit darker than what you might expect. Lots of interesting instrumentation, powerful female and male vocalists, and a very unique sound that you wont soon forget.
Check out their website HERE!
13) Arkells
I saw these guys play a couple years ago and they did an amazing job. Hadnt heard much beyond some hype up until that point, but I'm really glad I checked them out. Love the gritty vocals, simple but effective melodies... it all comes together in a great package with these guys! You may even recognize a couple of their tracks from radio and TV. Trust me on this one, this band is amazing.
12) Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker
Are there even words for these guys? Never forget the first show I saw them play... they made a smoothie on stage as part of their set. Pricelessly entertaining and memorable: everything a show should be! Their blend of hip hop, indie and rock is completely unique and purely Canadian. They are one of those bands that make me proud to hail from the great white north.
Check them out at their Myspace page HERE
Tragedy struck this band merely months ago when they lost their drummer, but I am still very impressed by their career span, and I love their work. I've only seen them play once and it was incredibly brief, but I remember it being one of the most fun sets I have ever witnessed. Watching them play, you'll be screming PARTY at the top of your lungs!
Check out their music HERE
10) Stars
This Canadian indie group has just made it to the ten year mark, and they have already solidified their place in this music scene. Lets face it, any group attached to the Broken Social Scene name is destined to be touched with gold. They're heading out on tour soon so be sure to check them out if they make a stop near you!
Check out their Myspace page HERE
9) Attack In Black
This band is a bit tricky... let me explain. They are EXTREMELY talented, yes. That is a given. They make great music, I certainly wont argue that. BUT I have seen alcohol pretty much destroy my opinion of their performance. See, I have seen them a few times. The problem is, they reallllly lack in the consistancy area, and its ALL dependent on how much they have had to drink before. I really like them, but I actually fell asleep once when I saw them open at an arena show because I was so lack luster with the performance. I have high hopes for these guys. I really do. They have some serious potential, and their album got rave reviews... I just hope that next time I see them, its soberISH.
Hear their Music HERE
These Halifax natives came together in 2001, and they're only just getting the recognition they deserve. I mean, lets be honest, its been a couple years now since Weighty Ghost dominated Canadian airwaves and its STILL stuck in my head! With all of the music I listen to, thats a pretty impressive achievement haha. "Are you some kind of medicine man? Cut the demons out of my head, You cant kill something thats already dead, Just leave my soul alone."
Listen to their music HERE
7) Controller.Controller
Probably one of the better known Canadian bands. An indie group with a bit of a techno edge, they make some really fantastic music... kind of dark, but still dancey with the beats and rhythms used.
Check out their Music HERE
6) Dragonette
Love Dragonette. Yet another one of those bands who have become quite the hometown favorites in these parts- seems like every show they play in the area is packed and hyped up to no end... and its easy to see why! The synth-pop trio have dominated the Canadian airwaves with radio friendly dance tracks like "I Get Around" which made it onto the Canadian Billboard chart. Between Martina's flawless voice, their signature creative genre bending sound and ability to kickstart dance parties from coast to coast, there is an endless list of reasons as to why this band is on the Canadian radar.
Listen to Dragonette HERE
5) Final Fantasy (aka Owen Pallett)
Owen is also a Toronto native... and absolutely brilliant, just like a handful of others on the list. Man, thats one talented city. What is perhaps most amazing about Pallett is the fact that he is clearly in it for the pure, simple love of music. He is known to donate a lot of the money to great causes. Struggling musicians, Doctors Without Borders... thats pretty cool. This violinist is one of a kind. Live shows get rave reviews and he even won the highly valued Polaris Music Prize. His work with numerous artists and solo ensure him a place on my list of valued Canadian musicians.
Give Owen and his work a listen HERE
4) Jesse Labelle:
Yes, a personal favorite of mine. This guy used to play a regular one man, one guitar show at a bar in my hometown before he hit it big- so its possible I'm in a bit bias. That dazzling smile, those heartfelt lyrics, and those impressive guitar solos probably encourage that bias JUST a little haha. Anyways, the Toronto native is remarkably talented and his cd is filled with beautifully written, catchy pop tunes that I can definitely see making a mark on the charts in the near future! Definitely check him out
Check out Jesse's music HERE... definitely listen to Dont Leave Now if you want a good idea of this boy's flawless voice
3) Saint Alvia
Formerly, Saint Alvia Cartel, the group formed back in 2005 uniting members of other bands like Jersey and Boys Night Out. Whats always great about bands coming together like that is the diverse influences that are often drawn out. The dynamic can make for a very distinct style that can never be duplicated. In this case... something punk/reggae/ska-esque. Magic. Give it a listen, its pretty fantastic, especially if you're looking for some summer tracks.
Listen to Saint Alvia HERE
2) Woodhands
More Toronto! This electro-indie pop duo is another example of the incredible things that happen when musicians from different backgrounds come together. Synth player Dan Werb had worked in bands from the Vancouver and Montreal scenes before teaming up with drummer Paul Banwatt. What ensued their collabortion? Pure Magic! This is what happens when punk meets sophisticated techno beats and catchy synth melodies. Hard to believe this is all the doing of two guys and a producer... thats what I call talent. Enjoy!
Check out Woodhands HERE
1) Broken Social Scene
Perhaps the most multi-faceted Canadian band in existence. This indie powerhouse contains a varrying number of band members who are involved in projects of their own outside the group. Members include well known musicians like Feist, Emily Haines (Metric) and Jason Tait. Now lets be honest here... with a lineup consisting of some of Canada's most amazing indie talent- HOW CAN YOU GO WRONG? Its just not possible for this to end badly. Melding ideas from some of the most brillian indie voices in the country is only going to result in a surge of intense Canadian pride. DEFINITELY check them out and prepare to be left speechless.
Listen to some amazing Canadian music by Broken Social Scene HERE
And thats it folks, some awesome Canadian tunes to make you think twice about the great white north. Let me know what you think, eh?

NOFX To Release "The Longest EP"
So punk legends NOFX have announced that they will be releasing a collection of EP tracks. The tunes will date back to 1987 all the way to the present date. They have decided to title the work: "The Longest EP". Very fitting I'd say, including all those tracks would definitely make it a pretty long EP... most EPs are only a few songs long. However, with the average track length under 2mins, I suppose it could balance out. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
Have to say, I'm not much a fan of NOFX. I know, I know, backlash awaits that comment in the punk community. I am sure that in admitting this, I could stand to lose a few followers. The thing is, I respect their career... they have worked long and hard to get where they are. I like that they have really solidified their place in modern punk history, HOWEVER, after watching them "share their opinions" on more than one occassion at various Warped Tours, I lost A LOT of respect for them. For me, Punk isnt about being so outspoken that you insult everyone around you... its about being free to believe what you want. Its about being your own person. But that doesnt mean that you have to criticize people for what they believe in... its not the way I work. I dont mind some of the music- a lot of it is great punk, but I just cant watch these guys play live shows anymore... its frustrating for me I guess. Anyways, thats my thought on the subject. Feel free to disagree, music is something that everyone has their own opinion on, especially when it boils down to the politics of the whole thing.
So new NOFX EP... looking forward to it? I'll give it a listen, but dont look for me at live shows!

Boxcar Racer Coming To Vinyl
Yup- its true! Even though the band broke it off a while back, its been confirmed that Boxcar Racer's album will soon be making an appearance on vinyl. Perhaps a must have for any die hard Blink-182/Tom Delonge/Travis Barker fan. I have the cd and its pretty rocking. Have to say that tracks like "I Feel So" and "There Is" still make regular appearances on my playlists. Now, the vinyl is being sold through Hot Topic chains and is on a very limited count. Only 2000 pressings of a limited edition black and red swirl vinyl are available... so act quickly if you're interested! A great addition to any fan's collection.
Do you still rock out to Boxcar? Whats your favorite track?

Riley Breckenridge of Thrice Announces Weekly Column
For those of you who think, "Man, that name sounds familiar"... yes, you may know Riley outside his skillful drumming for alternative rock group, Thrice. Riley isnt new to the world of the written word, and I'm not taking about penning a song. No, no. The drummer acutally used to write a column alongside Morningwood singer Chantel Claret. "The Battle Of The Sexes" column took a fan's problem and examined it from both the male and female perspective- providing two points of view and separate sets of advice, followed by a semi joint ruling. I used to read this all the time... before it was cancelled in 2007. Anyways, seems the writing bug couldnt let Riley stray for long. Seems the drummer is back with pen in hand, this time writing for OC Weekly. His column will be called: Riley's Three Things. Each week, it will feature a list, like a top 3. Could be interesting. I'm curious to see with some of the Top 3 lists he comes up with! He's a great writer so its definitely worth a read. Simple, yet intriguing. I like it.
Will you be reading Riley's 3Hree Things? (no thats not a spelling mistake, thats the title haha)

All Time Low's Alex Gaskarth Covers "Jumper" With Third Eye Blind
Just wanted to share a video with you all today. Its kind of cool... shows how rock can interact even with generation gaps pushing two bands apart. While on the Bamboozle Road Show, Third Eye Blind had All Time Low vocalist, Alex Gaskarth, come out and perform Jumper with them. Classic song- makes for a great karaoke track for those of you keeping score of such suggestions at home. Anyways, the band and Alex did a great job performing the track together. Really brought a sense of community to the act, which I love. None of that pretentious "I've been doing this longer than you" stuff that sometimes happens. Sad, but true. So check out the video below, see what you think! I love it. Alex's voice is a great fit. Have to say- ATL is really starting to grow on me. Take that however you want, I'm not ashamed of my love for pop-punk boys haha.
What do you think? Not too shabby, eh? *yes, I AM CANADIAN*

Alternative Press Show Off 2010 Warped Tour Covers
So, Alternative Press have unveiled their Warped Tour edition covers and they look great! This year's photos include members of We The Kings, Bring Me The Horizon, Alkaline Trio, The Rocket Summer, Versaemerge and more! This year's tour may not be the most exciting lineup (in my books anyways) but it still has some rocking bands and the experience is still unlike anything else in North America. I'm stoked, and these covers just intensify that adrenaline. Warped Tour- here I come! Year seven is going to be killer. I'll be adding this issue to my collection soon, will you?

Free Drake/Hanson Show In NYC Shut Down For Safety
Yup, its true! A free Drake & Hanson show planned for New York City was shutdown by cops today due to safety hazards. No one had a chance to grace the stage before the NYPD decided to cancel the performance and clear the area. So what caused the cancellation? Apparently- far too many people showed up! I have to ask... what were they expecting? Drake is a huge up and coming hip hop artist with an album that dropped yesterday to rave reviews and probably major sales... wouldnt you think that throwing a FREE concert in a major city would result in a disaster? I would. Its kind of common sense...
In any case, the lack of space kind of drove people crazy. They began to climb up buildings and structures for a better view. When security asked them to come down, they got vicious. Sadly, quite a few people were hurt in the event. Just goes to show you that concerts can still be violent. Tragic really. If everyone would just take it easy and relax a bit, then concerts could be a fun experience like they're supposed to be! Dont you miss those days? I do :(
What do you think? Were the cops in the right? Watching the footage, I'd say they were!

Green Day Perform On The Tony Awards
FIRST OFF: I'm sorry, my encoding does not seem to be working. Something is up with my computer so I'm not able to post videos outside of Hyperlink format. I'm working on it, I promise to try and fix it ASAP! SORRY!
As some of you already know, Green Day were nominated for a few awards at this year's Tony Awards in recognition of their success on the Broadway circuit with "American Idiot". Green Day and cast also performed at the ceremony, bringing the crowd to their feet with a standing ovation. It was a very cool performance of some American Idiot/21st Century Breakdown tracks. I love the way they were able to bring the original rock n roll side and musical side together so well. Check out the video HERE and see what you think!

New Lady Gaga Video For "Alejandro" Hits The Air
Yes, its true! The latest in the long line of Lady Gaga epics has finally been released. The eight minute video is, in true Gaga style, an oddity. In the first minute alone it features men in fishnet stockings, and a circus inspired military march. Fast forward a little more and you have a very dark funeral and some pretty twisted imagery. Pretty standard for her, but still, she manages to keep it interesting for sure. There is definitely a lot to see haha.
Check out the video HERE and see what you think.

Original Pink Spiders Lineup To Reunite?
So rumors have been running wild that the original Pink Spiders lineup may be working together once more! I dont know how many of you are familiar with these guys, but if you arent PLEASE I urge you to give them a listen. Their music is seriously amazing. Kind of a retro fitted brand of pop punk... lots of catchy melodies. Hard not to fall in love with it. Anyways, the original lineup disbanded a couple years back around the time they released "Sweat It Out". The album was recorded with the original band, but the members soon departed due to royalty fee issues and left Matt Friction as the only founding member. Soon after, Matt announced a longterm hiatus so he could focus on his side project, Matt Friction and the Cheap Shots.
Matt announced however, that the original line would possibly be getting back together. Via myspace, he said that the three had been playing together and that talks of tours and albums could follow!
For a fan, this is definitely exciting news :) How about you guys? Excited?

Teenage Crowd Maced During All Time Low Performance At Six Flags
What is this world coming to? I mean, MACE at an All Time Low concert? This isnt The Beatles, and it certainly isnt Elvis. I dont get it. Maybe, MAYBE, mace should be used in extreme cases of what I call, Bieber-itis.... aka excessive fandom of the sixteen year old youtube sensation from my neck of the woods... but even then, its harsh.
Apparently the All Time Low performance tonight at Six Flags got a little out of hand, and police decided to take some action. The show was part of this years Bamboozle road show, featuring LMFAO, Boys Like Girls, Forever The Sickest Kids, and Good Charlotte among others.
Personally, until I see proof that this was out of control, I'm going to say this is probably just another example of security being out of touch. Fans these days get rowdy, they like to have fun. I know I've started some shit at shows I've been to over the years. Moshing and circle pits are all part of the package now, even with lighter, poppier bands like ATL. Its all about generating memories... about that split second where you get to the front of that crowd, when the guitarist points you out in awe of your achievement, the way that drumstick feels as it hits the palm of your hand. I'm sure most of you know what I'm talking about. We were all 13 once, we all pulled stunts that in retospect may not have been well thought out, but the point is- They are memorable. Am I wrong?
What do you think? Did the cops take it too far? Were they right to handle it with Mace?
Let me know, I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Hayley Williams Twitter Hacked- Pictures Leaked
So, the latest victim of twitter hacking and leaked photos of a 'questionable nature' is Hayley Williams. The fiery female vocalist had her twitpic account hacked the other day, and a photo in which her shirt is rolled up, was leaked briefly.
It sucks that people can have their privacy invaded like this. She may be a celebrity, but first and foremost, she's a human being. No one deserves to be exploited like this... I cant imagine how it would feel to be the victim of an act like this. Its so, so sad. And worst of all, it happens to celebrities and every day people all the time. In an age where everything is/can be made digital, its nearly impossible to make sure something you intend to be private, never goes public.
Hayley is a beautiful girl, who was the victim of an unfortunate circumstance. Lesson be learned- dont take provocative photos of yourself unless you are ready to deal with seeing them everywhere. Sadly, this is the world we live in. Look at Pete Wentz, he still hasnt lived that down. I guess the best you can do is take his advice, and try to have a sense of humor about it. So remember kids, DONT SEXT. You never know where that picture could end up. In the meantime, support Hayley! We're all human, we all make mistakes.
What do you think? Please be respectful in your opinion, or your post WILL be deleted.

The Academy Is... Touring With KISS????
Yes, you read that right. Chicago based pop rock sensations, The Academy Is... have been announced as headliners for the upcoming KISS tour. Yes, the same KISS with Gene Simmons, heavy duty costumes, and full stage makeup. This is an odd tour grouping... in fact, ODD barely begins to cover it haha. I mean, I dont even know what to think of it all. Who thought to put this together? I mean, on one side you have these "heavy metal" icons who are famous for their stage theatrics and attention to image details... and on the other side... pretty rock boys from Chicago who dont wear more than a single swipe of eyeliner? Alrighty then. I'm sure the guys are probably stoked about this... its known that some of the members are HUGE classic rock fans, and of course KISS are pretty iconic in that way. Its also a cool experience I'm sure. I just hope the fans who attend the shows give them a chance... I promise, you wont be disappointed. These guys are raw talent.
Dates for the Tour can be found HERE
So if you're going to check out KISS, give TAI a shot, k? No throwing bottles haha

New Young Veins Track Featuring Jon Walker On Vocals
New songs by Ex-Panic! At The Disco members Ryan Ross and Jon Walker have been hitting the net by storm lately. With the anticipation of the upcoming album on the rise, the guys have been posting new songs fairly often. The most recent of which is a little different. Its called 'Everyone But You' and features bassist Jon Walker on lead vocals. Its kind of cool... a darker tone than the other tracks we've heard. More minor chords... its sad, but I like it. If we go back to the 60s imagery that seems to relate so heavily to this album/this sound, I would relate this back to tracks like Elanor Rigby. Not nearly the classic that song is, but its a pretty similar composition I think. So check out the song HERE and see what you think. Not bad, I'm curious to check out this album when it comes out.
How about you? Do you like this new direction or would you prefer to see Panic make a comeback?

Rivers Cuomo To Work With Simple Plan
Ok, you're confused. Its cool... now, read the title again because NO, sadly you were NOT mistaken. Weezer frontman and ultra talented Rivers Cuomo is said to be working with Canadian pop punk group Simple Plan on their upcoming release. I really dont even know what to think about this... I really respect Rivers. I mean, the geek chic rocker brought us songs like The Sweater Song and El Scorcho... great stuff! And from the Simple Plan camp, we have songs like Perfect and Welcome To My Life... who could ever forget such classic lines as "with their big fake smiles and stupid lies, while deep inside you're bleeding". I just cant imagine what they could come up with. Mind you, Rivers has been on some interesting kicks lately (see- Kenny Rogers) so who knows? Apparently he's bored writing smart, insightful, catchy tunes that get great milage over the years. He's grown beyond simplicity... taking a hint from Gaga on this whole "reverse shock value" deal. Who knows... I dont haha.
What do you think of the collaboration?

Westboro Church To Protest Ronnie James Dio's Funeral
Is any body else getting REALLY sick of these protests? Seriously, this needs to end. I am all for freedom of speech and expression, but these people are just ridiculous. Funerals and such are not the most ideal place for such expressions... thats just down right hateful and disrespectful. Anyways, on to the story!
As some of you may know, rock n roll icon Ronnie James Dio passed away on May 16th from his battle with stomach cancer. Although many messages relayed to fans via online updates suggested that treatments were going well, we've once again witnessed just how silent and deadly of a killer cancer can be. Tragic. Ronnie Dio is best remembered for his powerful metal voice and work with bands like Black Sabbath, Heaven and Hell, and Dio.
Well, it appears that Westboro Church now intends to make their opinion known. The hateful group plans to protest the singer's upcoming funeral... probably because he sang metal music and helped make "devil horns" popular. I dont care what he did, these people have no right to protest a FUNERAL. This is a place for people to gather in comfort and remember someone they lost. The last thing they need is someone spreading hate at the front door. All this man did was play amazing music and bring people together... He even developed a fundraiser called Hear N Aid to raise money for famine relief in Africa. Seems like a pretty good guy to me...
Again, all for basic rights of humanity but this is just sick and wrong in so many ways. What do you think?

New Transplants Album In The Works
According to recent tweets by drummer extraordinaire- Travis Barker, the Transplants are currently in the process of recording a new album! I'm pretty stoked for this, I mean, how can you go wrong when you combine Tim Armstrong with Travis Barker??? Answer: You cant. I love the punk with hip hop overtones that they have. Makes for a good mix in my opinion. I just wonder if this will have any effect on the release date of the new Blink album? Lets hope not- that stuff is LONG overdue!
New Transplants... who's excited???

Alternative Press Anniversary Covers
Alternative Press Magazine have released the new covers for their upcoming 25th Anniversary edition... and its a cool concept for sure! The magazine has chosen to take some of today's popular bands and replicate some of their classic covers with the new generation. 30h3, Escape The Fate and The Maine have stepped in to "cover" (if you will) some old photo shoots by Kid Rock(Aug 1999), Afghan Whigs(Feb 1994), and Brand New(Dec 2003).
Definitely a call for congrats, Alternative Press. Celebrate the fact that you have achieved your 25th anniversary amidst this age of economic uncertainty. With magazines and newspapers being forced to shut their doors, getting to the 25th year is impressive. GOOD JOB!
So, go HERE to check out the covers, they're pretty cool

Trace Cyrus Shops Reality Show To Networks!
Oh how I hope this is some kind of HORRIBLE practical joke that will leave me laughing and thanking all that is good when I find out that it was all a big haha to make us squirm! Apparently former Metro Station/present Ashland High star Trace Cyrus and his 'father', one-hit-wonder "achy breaky heart" singer Billy Ray Cyrus are shopping around television network meetings hoping to land themselves a reality show. Can you IMAGINE the horror? Seriously... an hour of them a week? Talking about their very limited careers, and how they cling to Miley for fame? What could be interesting about that? I'm sorry but if this is what TV has come to, I am SO glad I dont have access to cable right now haha. The Osbournes are legends... well, Ozzy is at least. The Simmons are funny... what are they Cyrus'? No. No. PLEASE NO.
What would you think of a Cyrus family reality show? Can anyone say House of Carters?
Would any of you watch this? Why/why not?

More Blink-182 On Vinyl
Mightier Than Swords records has announced the upcoming release of yet another piece of the essential Blink-182 catalogue to be available on vinyl! Oh yes, I cant wait for this one. Blink's self titled album (the one they released before the terrible, never to be spoken of again Hiatus) is going to be released in a limited pressing on the label's web store. The presale begins on May 24th at 12pm EST. There will be 5 color selections to choose from... all of them will consist of 500-2000 pressings (the later being a hot pink print available ONLY from Hot Topic). The store ships only to US and Canada addresses so if you live outside those countries... now is the time to get on the phone with that distant American relative of yours who would be more than happy to forward it to you upon arrival ahaha.
So excited! I bought Dude Ranch and Enema from this site and I LOVE THEM.
Cant wait to add this to my collection, how about you?

Tokio Hotel Guitarist Overdoses... And Its Not On Any drug You Would Think Of First!
Oh man... I battled with myself about posting this but I just CANNOT resist. Its priceless and just a little bit screwy. Apparently while touring in Taiwan, Tokio Hotel guitarist Tom Kaulitz decided to take some VIAGRA that was offered to him at a market. Yes, the 20 year old apparently asked the man if he really looked like he needed those kinds of meds, and yet, he took it anyways. Not only did he take it, but he took enough to overdose and suffer from side effects for TWO DAYS. Come on... isnt it just common sense that at 20, you probably dont really need that stuff under normal circumstances. Really now... Kids, dont follow this suite please. Its not a good example...
Let this be a reminder that `Drugs are BAD... mmkay` as Mr.Mackey would say

Katy Perry Tops Maxim's Top 100 of 2010
Its official... Katy Perry is the most beautiful woman in the world according to this year's Maxim list. I think she's a great pick... she's not the most modern example of stereotypical beauty... she's not blonde, she's not super thin, she writes her own music... she's just a healthy, fun loving, pretty woman. I think she's gorgeous, creative and a perfect fit for this list. She's quirky, not afraid to be herself and I like that as a choice for a role model. Better seeing her on the top of the chart than a barbie doll look alike who is completely molded by the industry.
What do you think? Would there have been a better choice in your mind? Who?

Miley Cyrus Turns Up The Heat In Her New Video
Apparently Hannah Montanna has been laid to rest, and this is what we're left with. Teen pop sensation Miley Cyrus has released her latest video and she wants you to know, she cant be tamed! The video is a very dramatic spin from Miley's last single "When I Look At You" which is very light hearted and soft if you will... This new released features the young songstress dressed as some kind of raven/dark angel in a bird cage. Very reminiscent of a scene from King Kong. As the music kicks in, Miley spreads her wings and dancers appear at her sides. The next three minutes or so are filled with highly sexualized dance moves, revealing clothing and suggestive themes. I mean "I go through guys like money, Flying out their hands"... really?
