Blink-182 Return To The Studio In June

Hey Everyone!
Yes, its true, the Blink-182 reunion is still a go after last summer's tour. The boys are claiming now that they will be returning to the studio in June to work on their comeback album. With schedules like theirs, its easy to see why it took a few months to organize the recording process. The important thing is they're back, and ready to release their sixth studio album.

When asked about the kind of sound fans can expect from the newly reformed Blink, Mark Hoppus said that the band is eager to try some new stuff. He said "I think it will still sound like Blink. I think it will still be catchy. I think it will still be poppy, but we want to be weird on this record"... weird, huh? Well, its Blink, so I cant wait to see what they do!

Rest easy now, people! The Blink reunion doesnt appear to be ending any time soon!
Just think, less than a month from now, they'll be writing/recording!

Hey Everyone!
Greta Morgan (formerly of the Hush Sound) has returned from hiatus with her new group, Gold Motel. Yes, as promised, the indie queen with the soft voice has released a new song called "We're On The Run" and its fantastic! As expected of course. This song has SUMMER written all over it. An upbeat little pop song with chord combinations that take you back to those days spent driving to the beach and lying in the sun. Simply put, I love it! How can you not? Check out the video HERE, and be prepared to add this to your summer play list!

You can look for Gold Motel's album to hit shelves early June according to the band's Myspace.

SAVE 924 GILMAN STREET!

Hey Everyone!
For those of you who dont know what I'm talking about, allow me to explain... 924 Gilman Street is basically the California equivalent of CBGB's. Its a punk rock club which allowed the start for some of the most notable bands today like Green Day and AFI. It also was a place for bands like Operation Ivy and Rancid to get their start. This place has some AMAZING history.

924 Gilman Street is an all ages, non profit club that showcases bands who are not part of major labels or the mainstream scene. The club held its first show in 1986 and gained tremendous popularity with the youth of Berkeley, California. Its mainly run and operated by youth who pay a $2 fee to become members of a 'board' if you will. The rules are: no drugs, no violence, no booze. They also refuse to support any bands who encourage racism, sexist or misogynist music. This place is incredible and honestly, its sad that only one club like this really truly exists here. It has allowed the spirit of the early punk scene to live on through the ages. I love the idea and I really hope they pull through.

So now that you have the history under your belt, allow me to explain the issue at hand... This place has been in a little financial trouble for a while as you can imagine. And now, their rent is set to go up so more costs will need to be covered. The rent, according to the web pleas of Gilman Street, will be increasing almost double... (from 4300 to 7000/month). They are asking for donations, and donations of $25+ will include a t-shirt and tote bag. I plan to make a donation as soon as I can, hopefully you can too! Any size helps. I want to be able to see this place in all its glory before it falls like so many others...

HELP GILMAN STREET, PEOPLE! DO WHAT YOU CAN TO SAVE HISTORY!

Tentative Release Date For Travis Barker's Solo Album

Hey Everyone!
Exciting news! According to some twitter posts, we could be looking at a release for Travis Barker's solo album this year! Yes, thats right. For those of you who were not aware of it, I mentioned a while back that the drummer had plans to release an album of his own material before focusing primarily on the new Blink ventures.

Personally, I think Travis is incredibly talented so I look forward to hearing what he's come up with. He's very eclectic... he's not afraid to transcend genre boundaries and try something that seems crazy. I mean, look at his work with DJ AM, Blink, The Aquabats and The Transplants... all pretty unique or distinct styles in themselves.

Anyways, Travis posted on his twitter a couple days ago, stating in response to a fan's question about the albums release "$eptember!". Soon, but awesome news!

SO what do you think? Who's gonna run out and buy this one? I am!

You Say Party We Say Die Drummer Passes Away

Hey Everyone!
Sad news today... You Say Party! We Say Die! drummer, Devon Clifford passed away at the age of 30. He died on April 18th 2010, after collapsing on stage at a show on Friday night in Vancouver. Early reports are claiming that the complications may have been the result of a sudden brain hemorrhage. He was rushed to the hospital, where he fought for two days before losing his life. According to the band's twitter updates, his condition did not improve in hospital. Sad, sad news. Yet another talented drummer is lost...

You Say Party! We Say Die is a five piece dance punk band from Abbotsford, B.C. They were set to tour Europe this summer.

So sad... 30 is too young, only 9 years older than me. News like this always saddens and terrifies me. RIP Devon, you will be missed.

Mark Hoppus & All Time Low Enter Studio... Welcome Trousdale Press!

Hey Everyone!
For those of you who were unaware, Mark Hoppus (Blink-182/Plus44) has been actively working in the studio with the young guys in All Time Low. The boys grew up listening to Blink albums and cite them as a major influence, so of course when given the chance to work with the producer/musician, they were eager to accept. Hoppus helped them with their latest album, Nothing Personal and even made a cameo in their video for the album's single "Weightless". They also collaborated on a song, but it failed to make the cut on the final product. However, the boys promised that this song would one day see the light of day... seems like that day is coming sooner than we thought!

Get ready for Trousdale Press! Yet another name for Hoppus to add to his already very lengthy resume. Trousdale Press will release a debut album which is nearing completion now. It will feature Hoppus and friends of his, including ATL. He's keeping the project pretty secret for now, but its definitely something to keep on the radar. Whatever Hoppus touches in the studio turns to gold, so I'm sure this will be no different!

What do you think of the combination? Its cool to see young up and comers working with their major influences... must be cool for Mark to know he played a role indirectly haha

Butch Walker Releases New Video

Hey Everyone!
My favorite musician/producer/genius and yours has released a new video. Yes, Butch Walker is back and as great as ever! The song is called "Pretty Melody" and is featured on his latest album I Liked It Better When You Had No Heart. The five and a half minute Kung Fu epic features cameos from Panic At The Disco members Spencer Smith and Brendon Urie. The video is pretty clever and well produced, the song is very reminiscent of early hippy rock... simplistic, minimalist, but still packing some classic raw Butch Walker talent. I'm a fan, how about you? Check out the video below, see what you think!

Butch Walker is currently on tour in support of the album with his band, the Black Widows

Jesse Labelle's Perfect Accident

Hey Everyone!
So here I am once again, sitting in the University Community Center trying my best to type up ten pages of brilliance... but its so not happening haha. I've been listening to some emo in an attempt to stumble upon brilliance, but thats also not happening. Instead I think I'm starting to feel morbidly depressed haha. Anyways, as a break, I put on shuffle and came across this gem that I picked up off some random music video flow not too long ago. Its called "Perfect Accident" by Toronto native, Jesse Labelle. Its so stunning, seriously I'm hooked. I know I said that I'm not big on guitar serenades but if a guy sang this to me, I'd probably get a little choked up. After all, I'm not heartless haha.

A fixture in the Toronto music scene from a young age, he's finally getting his chance at a big break (outside his early escapades in boy band ID- Identically Different haha). Jesse released his first EP on Wax Records in September and has been touring feverishly to gain some exposure. The young Canadian song writer has already been called the next John Mayer, and will be touring this spring in support of Faber Drive. Check out the tour dates HERE. I cant say I'm a big Faber fan, but I'm actually debating checking this show out just for Labelle.

Greetings From Campus

Hey Everyone!
Well, for the last time in my life its that time of the year again... the end of another university term and you know what that means... EXAMS! Oh yes, if you are wondering why my posts are so few and far between, there is a reason. Its not just me being lazy or forgetting about my blog- trust me I have lots of stories piling up to write about. Just no time right now. In fact, this blog right now is just serving as a distraction from my essay about Masculinity and Emo Culture. Exciting, huh? Well, I should probably get back to my paper... or the blank screen with my name on it that will eventually become a 10+ page essay anyways haha.

As the song goes: "We'll meet again, Don't know where, Don't know when"... In the mean time, I wanted to share this other song with you because I think its pretty beautiful. Captures a lot of emotion within it. Very fitting in terms of my paper I think haha. Its a song called "Autumn's Monologue" by a band called From Autumn To Ashes. Check it out, see what you think!

"Oh Why Cant I Be What You Need? A New Improved Version Of Me. But I Am Nothing So Good, No, I'm Nothing. Just Bones, A Lonely Ghost Burning Down Songs Of Violence, Of Love And Of Sorrow. I Beg For Just One More Tomorrow. Where You Hold Me Down, Fold Me In. Deep, Deep, Deep In The Heart Of Your Sins"

Until We Meet Again....

Lollapalooza Lineup Announced

Hey Everyone!
You know its finally summer when all the concert announcements start to come out! I mean, Green Day/AFI touring together, Warped Tour adding more bands by the day, and Leeds/Reading making their lineup official only weeks ago, this is shaping up to be a great summer! And now, for all those who have been waiting patiently... Lollapalooza is the next to come forward with a killer festival.

This year, headliners for the weekend festival include: Lady Gaga, Green Day, Soundgarden, Arcade Fire, MGMT, Devo, Mutemath, Metric, AFI, Cut Copy and MANY MORE! The concert takes place over the weekend of August6-8th in Grant Park, Chicago, Illinois. Rumor has it that Gaga's getting her own, personally designed stage and that her performance is coming with some serious expectations... I wouldnt doubt it. Gaga doesnt do things with half effort haha.

What do you think? Road trip to Illinois? I'm tempted!

Aaron Gillepsie Says Goodbye to Underoath

Hey Everyone!
So after much confusion and silence on their end, its become official... UnderOath drummer Aaron Gillepsie has left the band. As soon as this leg of their touring is completed, the boys will say goodbye. Sad day indeed, Aaron has some serious skills behind the kit. Absolutely amazing to watch. He also has a great vocal range which will definitely be missed by the fans and the group. Wont be the same without him.

Now, I have to wonder who's going to be taking over? Its not easy to find a drummer who can sing flawlessly at the exact same time!

Interesting fact: There are NO original band members left!

What do you think? Will you miss Aaron?

Trace Cyrus Reinvents As "Ashland High"

Hey Everyone!
...And he probably should have stuck it out with Mason and reinvented Metro Station instead. After the Metro Station breakup, bassist/vocalist/halfbrother-of-a-famous-teen-superstar Trace Cyrus swore that he would not stop making music. Apparently, he has kept this promise! He has reinvented himself in the form of his new solo project: Ashland High.... and its about as bad as it sounds haha. He has taken shitty pop-punk techno to a whole new low. Its almost impressive when you think about it. I'm sorry- but as soon as this began to play, I was tempted to buy earplugs and where them EVERYWHERE in fear that I might hear this somewhere and not be prepared for the savage attack on my ears :P I dont know how many of you actually like Trace, but I'm personally getting a little tired of the tattoo-covered scene boy who goes on tour with his more famous sister. You can check out his new music HERE and see what you think for yourself!

What do YOU think of Ashland High?

Gaga For Gaga Fashion?

Hey Everyone!
So I was browsing some online store catalogs (shopping for a few pieces for a spring/summer wardrobe... I am a girl after all haha) and I came across something interesting on the Hot Topic site. Now, I typically love their jewelery and hair accessories. Very much my style, but what I came across... well, I'm still not quite sure how I feel about it haha. Basically, Hot Topic has developed a line of Lady Gaga inspired accessories...

Yes folks, from hair bows to lace bunny ears, you can own it all! I'm just not sure what to think. I mean, when I see Gaga, I definitely take note of her fashion choices, but more for their absurdity than anything else. I dont think "wow, I could rock that" because I dont live on the cover of a high fashion magazine... I live in an average city where people would lock me in the loony bin for a stunt like that. Anyways, some if it is sweet, but other pieces seem to belong more on Halloween than on the street.

What do you think of the Go Gaga line? Will you be buying any pieces?

New Music From Alexisonfire On The Way!

Hey Everyone!
Hot on the heels of their Old Crows/Young Cardinals release (June 2009), St.Catherine's boys Alexisonfire have announced their plans to release a four song EP called Dogs Blood soon. They plan to hit the studios this spring to record. Seems a little fast but I'm not complaining. They have been doing some really great and interesting reworking of their sound in order to preserve vocalist George Pettit's voice. I kind of like it, and I'm curious to see where it goes next!

So what do you think? Excited for more AOF? I am!
