Something Corporate To Release New Music!

Hey Everyone!

For the first time in about 6 years, Something Corporate have announced plans to release a cd. The double disk will be called "Played In Space: The Best Of Something Corporate". It will contain the best tracks from the bands collection as well as a second disk containing a new song called, "Wait", a recorded version of fan favorite "Konstantine", another beautiful unrecorded track "Watch The Sky", and some new mixes of old tracks. Personally, as a long time fan of all these tracks, I'm super excited to see this come out. It feels like a better way for the boys to say goodbye, unlike the super sudden hiatus of 2004 that took a lot of people by surprise. I mean, it sucks to not be able to say goodbye to a band that you love, right? The CD is set to be released in April, could a tour ensue? Only time will tell! This announcement comes shortly after their reunion performance at California's Bamboozle Left Festival.

Patrick Stump Goes Solo!

Hey Everyone!

As the debate around the Fall Out Boy "hiatus/breakup" rages on, lead vocalist Patrick Stump has only intensified the rumors of a split with his latest video post. A few days ago, Patrick took to the web with announcements that FOB is not his primary concern right now stating "I'm not in Fall Out Boy right now". This statement has been clarified by the recent video post shown below which shows Stump recording multiple instrumental tracks and vocals for his upcoming solo efforts.

Personally, I'm pretty excited about this. Patrick is an absolutely genius musician and vocalist. He writes amazing music and this solo will give him a chance to showcase his abilities outside the simplistic pop rock songs he is typically associated with. This is a great opportunity for him and I think he knows that.

Follow Up On New Blink-182: Mark Hoppus Responds To DeLonge's Hint Of A 2011 Release

Hey Everyone!

When news hit earlier this week that guitarist/vocalist Thomas DeLonge of Blink-182 had set his priorities with side project Angels And Airwaves, pushing the highly anticipated new Blink-182 material to the proverbial back burner until 2011, fans were voicing their disappointment all over the web. Taking to Facebook, the Twitterverse, the Blogosphere and public channels of the dot com world everywhere, fans eagerly shared in their misfortune.

The promise of new material from the classic pop punk trio excited fans in countries around the world, and many seemed to feel robbed. But bassist/vocalist Mark Hoppus has spoken out on the topic, making an effort to calm the fans. Over twitter, Hoppus posted:

"2011 is too far away. Gonna do all I can to have a Blink-182 album in 2010. Year Spaceship!"

...While many are thrilled with the news, some wonder now, if it might be too rushed.

It is known that both Travis Barker and Tom DeLonge have a couple other commitments to work on in studio as well as record the Blink album. Mark is doing production work for other groups but is not doing much recording. Perhaps he's more eager to get in the studio than the other two? I dont know, I'm not putting him down at all. Just saying that as much as I'd love to see a new Blink album, I wanna see one that makes me forget about that devastating Hiatus, not bring it back into effect haha.

Taking A Break

Hey Everyone!

So I know I said that as soon as exams were out and the holidays began, I'd be writing a lot more. But with the hours at work and the family plans, I feel like its probably best if I just take a holiday from everything- including the blog. Just until things calm down. Maybe a week/week and a half? Nothing crazy, I PROMISE I will be back to write more news stories for you asap! Just need a bit of time to unwind, it is my vacation time after all! Well, thanks for keeping up and I'll be back before you know it! In the mean time, enjoy this video... which is how I'm feeling right about now with all the holiday madness ahaha.

Burning Empires Take Over Myspace Airwaves

Hey Everyone!
So last I mentioned, some of the members of Fall Out Boy are taking the band's hiatus as a chance to diversify and try new things. Andy Hurley, drummer, being one of them. He and some friends from Misery Signals are working on a side project called Burning Empires... and they are on fire! They have already posted a few songs to their myspace and Spin, and twitter is in an uproar. Apparently no one thought the soft spoken, easy going drummer had it in him. The hard, fast, political tunes seem to be a hit so far. A long way from the poppy emo lyric tunes he produced with FOB. He is also working on a 2nd project with members of Anthrax and Every Time I Die called, The Damned Things. I personally like it, what do you think?

The Dreaded "Hiatus"

Hey Everyone!

Everywhere you look these days, bands are taking "breaks" (otherwise known as a hiatus) from work in order to take time for other things... family, writing, whatever it may be. The hiatus is the new black. Many artists are well deserving of a vacation after the amount of work and touring they do, there is no question about that. But at the same time, some kind of red panic light seems to set in when fans hear that word... HIATUS. Its scary, because it seems that for every 10 bands who take one, only 7 come back. 

It becomes a fan's worst nightmare, a waiting game that can last years without any news. I know that when Blink-182 announced their hiatus back in 2005, I was pretty distraught. They are one of my all time favorite bands, I grew up listening to them and to know that I would be left with the somewhat unsatisfying memories of the 2004 untitled release did little to settle my panic haha. Other bands I liked when I was younger, bands that had an important influence on what I listen to now and who I am today, many of them have been on an "indefinite hiatus" for years now. Hiatus, break, quitting... its all so confusing these days.

I guess its just the phrasing that makes us freak out... I mean, "indefinite hiatus"... why cant you just come out with it and say, "we quit"? Is it that hard? I'm intrigued by this resignification of everything. It used to be so simple... a band was active, they played, they recorded. When they had enough, they called it quits. And then they started taking breaks and coming back... and now its just all over the board. Sometimes I find I have a hard time knowing who's still around and who's on "hiatus".

As a music fan, I only ask one thing... be BLUNT. No matter how much it would hurt to hear it, I'd prefer a band just came right out with "you know what, we've done this for a while and we're tired of it, we want to try something different so we're done, thanks!" No more of this "indefinite hiatus stuff... we all know what that means, doesn't matter how you phrase it!

Song of the Day: Not Now by Blink-182... one of the last tracks released before the hiatus and though it is not classically funny/twisted Blink, it does a great job at summing up the position of the band at the point it was released through both the song itself and the video... "Please stay, until I'm gone I'm here hold on, to me I'm right here, waiting" It leaves you with that sense of uncertainty, that something is not right, but it isn't quite over.

So again, through the wonders of Twitter (who needs mainstream media outlets when you have this new technological wonder online? *side note: I HATE Twitter actually haha) another band has made a big announcement. It seems there will be no touring in Fall Out Boy's immediate future as the band have called a hiatus. Drummer Andy Hurley broke the news and was greeted to swarms of fans flooding his replies in fear of a hiatus turning into a breakup. A common enough occurance for sure, but Andy is currently trying to calm the twitterverse down with assurance that this is not the end of the band. They just need a break, kids. Calm yourselves, take a deep breath, and go back to your homework. 

Personally, I cant say I'm shocked by this. Like them or not, you have to respect their dedication. Fall Out Boy have been touring relentlessly for quite some time now, and its probably beginning to take its toll. The boys have families and friends that deserve some attention after all this time. They also want to take time to "rediscover" their creativity according to bassist Pete Wentz. The boys will take some time out to dabble in different interests and relax away from the road. They recently wrapped up an opening slot on the highly anticipated Blink reunion tour and released a greatest hits album chronicling the past 7 years of their career. 

Personally, I'm excited to see what they come back with... and I'm curious to see how Andy does with his return to hardcore (his side project for the hiatus, he's recording with some friends according to his twitter!)

Song of the Day: What A Catch, Donnie by Fall Out Boy... the third single released from Folie A Deux. I have to say, I LOVE this song. Patrick's voice is absolutely gorgeous. So unique, a combination of various influences and teaching styles (his father was a folk singer which is likely a factor in his not so traditional rock vocal style). I love how this song so beautifully captures his range. The lyrics are also stunning... "They say the captain goes down with the ship, So when the world goes down will God go down with it?... And all I can think of is the way I'm the one who charmed the one who gave up on you". All in all the song is brilliant in my opinion, even though it is a far cry from their earlier work. It also features a number of guest vocals by William Beckett, Gabe Saporta, Travis McCoy, Brendon Urie and the one and only Elvis Costello.
