Butch Walker's 25K Package "Purchased"

Hey Everyone!

A few days ago, Butch Walker mentioned on his blog that someone had purchased that 25k preorder package... the one where someone gets to spend the weekend at his house writing a song for his next album and perform it on tour with him? Well, he said the details would be released soon and he wasnt kidding... except he was. Check out the HILARIOUS video here featuring the 25K purchaser... he might be familiar to you... let me give you a hint...

Gotta love Butch & Brendon... different generations of talent, and still good friends with a very simple, juvenile sense of humor... anyone else feel the American Psycho parody as much as I did?

Young Veins Announce Tour Dates!

Hey Everyone!

While many 13 year olds are still mourning the "break up" of Panic! At The Disco (and by breakup I mean that 2 members left but Brendon and Spencer are still playing under the same banner), some may be cheered up by this news. Jon Walker and Ryan Ross will be hitting the road this spring with their new act- The Young Veins.

 

If you like the flowery 60s inspired direction of their last release Pretty Odd, then maybe this is worth looking into. It takes a few GIANT steps in that same direction. Its very much "hippy" rock in a modern form. Think Mad As Rabbits from their last album... great song, but imagine an entire album of strange, upbeat pop songs with odd messages haha. If that sounds appealing to you, then check it out... they're not bad at all, I just dont know that they'll ever be on my list of favorites ahaha. I think I'd definitely check out the album if it ever gets released.

Ross and Walker are talented musicians with a lot of industry experience for their respective ages. I cant imagine that they would go through with this unless they thought it would benefit them... but maybe you need more than a couple songs before you go on an all out tour? I mean, this thing has a pretty extensive run! Check out the dates below!

New Angels And Airwaves "LOVE" Available Now Online!

Hey Everyone!

Amidst the news of new Blink-182 music, many people may be unaware that Tom's other band AVA had finished recording their new album, LOVE. As much as I'm not a massive fan, I have downloaded the album and must admit that I like what I've heard so far!

 

For those of you who dont know the story, pretty much Tom & the band funded this entire album from their own pockets. Apparently they wanted to be able to release it online as a free download, but they were unable to reach an agreement with the label. As a result, they paid for the studio and production time on their own dime and did things their own way. I think thats pretty commendable. Clearly the music was more important than the profit. If any of you are aware of studio pricing- time is NOT cheap. Last I heard it was about $500,000 for the album... thats money I will probably never see in my lifetime haha.

Tom has stated in interviews that he is hoping that this will serve as a way to brand the band itself. He's hoping that this move will encourage fans to pay back the costs through donations and pay-per-viewing/listening features on their Modlife platform. He is also hoping that the move will increase their fan base ten fold, and that the profit from the new content being released will be able to cover the film the band has been discussing.

This is an interesting concept and I'm curious to see how it will play out... on one end, you have the possibility that fans will eagerly buy into this and the costs will be redeemed. Or you could end up with a Radiohead move... where even though the album was highly circulated, they barely saw a sale... 1/3 of downloaders payed nothing, and the overall average was 4 pounds (about 8 dollars). So again, this is kind of gutsy and comes with a lot of risks, but I hope it works out for them!

Patrick Stump Goes Solo!

Hey Everyone!

As the debate around the Fall Out Boy "hiatus/breakup" rages on, lead vocalist Patrick Stump has only intensified the rumors of a split with his latest video post. A few days ago, Patrick took to the web with announcements that FOB is not his primary concern right now stating "I'm not in Fall Out Boy right now". This statement has been clarified by the recent video post shown below which shows Stump recording multiple instrumental tracks and vocals for his upcoming solo efforts.

Personally, I'm pretty excited about this. Patrick is an absolutely genius musician and vocalist. He writes amazing music and this solo will give him a chance to showcase his abilities outside the simplistic pop rock songs he is typically associated with. This is a great opportunity for him and I think he knows that.

This Is Why I Have To Say Muse Is Absolutely Amazing

Hey Everyone!

So the other night I was hanging out with some friends, just talking about some cool performances we had seen (sparked by the Who's Super Bowl halftime show- WICKED STAGING & LIGHTS!) and I was reminded by my friend Andrew of this video I had seen a while ago. I decided I had to post it here for anyone who has not had the pleasure of seeing it... its PRICELESS!

Although some of you may only be familiar with these guys via Guitar Hero favorite "Knights of Cydonia", British rock kings Muse have released some absolutely amazing music over the course of their career. Steadily, they have been expanding their fan base and selling out arenas world wide- and do they ever deserve it! But thats not where this story gets interesting...

Sadly, pre recorded tracks are sometimes necessary for live performances. Its not always about the lack of talent or covering up missed notes- it can sometimes be a requirement from production teams to ensure the quality of a broadcast. And I'm gonna go ahead and assume thats why Italian TV Talk Show "Quelli Che Calcio" asked Muse to pre-record their track Uprising when they performed it on air... THIS is where the fun starts.

Apparently vocalist Matt Bellamy was far from impressed by this. He was so repulsed by the concept of lip syncing on TV and in front of an audience that he decided to have some fun with it. Fun that only fans of the guys would understand! During their performance, they all decided to SWITCH INSTRUMENTS! Matt gave up his mic and guitar combo for a very "george of the jungle" style drum career, drummer Dominic Howard took a stab at bass and vocals, while bassist Christopher Wolstenholme played a flawless mix of keyboard and lead guitar. Not only did they pull this off rather well... but it went right over the head of the host! She had NO IDEA that they had carried out this switch, which only led to hilarity in the interview process when she interviewed, who she assumed, was Matt Bellamy- the vocalist! Its just priceless.

I love that even in a miserable and degrading situation, these guys manage to have the last laugh! When you consider yourselves a serious group, the last thing you want is to lip sync on stage. When forced to, this is definitely the most innovative and brilliant way to do it that I've ever seen! Check out the performance & interview below- its too amazing.

So love them or hate them, this is the best career move I've seen in a while!

Super Bowl XLIV Kick Off Show

Hey Everyone!

I, like many other people, tuned in to the 44th NFL Superbowl last night. While I may have spent most of it doing readings for today's exam, I still enjoyed the game and being social with my roommates and friends. Always a good time even if you arent a big football follower like myself. Anyways, something that DID manage to catch my attention? The Kick Off Show featuring Jay-Z and Rihanna.

Not my favourite artists of all time, but I do listen to their music and respect their crafts. But here's the deal, this little performance was brilliant. It completely succeeded in what it was trying to do- hype up the game. I am NOT a big football fan. I vaguely understand the rules of play and pretty much just root for whoever my roommate tells me to... or if I'm feeling particularily difficult, I'll root for the opposite. Point is, not someone who really understands the big deal. But this little 2 and a half minute clip somehow managed to get me really excited for the game. Made it feel somewhat... EPIC you know? I mean, watch this baby!

Not only is the song "Run This Town" a more than suitable choice for the Superbowl spirit (especially in terms of lyrics), but there were just so many things done RIGHT with this performance. I love the orchestral accompaniment. It works so beautifully in contrast with Rihanna's soft voice and Jay's perfectly confident flow. The timpani rolls, the exquisite piano playing, the building intensity of the violins, the electric guitars in the back driving the song... its crazy! Combine that with game highlights, fireworks and overall stunning visuals, thats a winning mix right there. No way to go wrong. I have to say, even I was super excited wondering who was going to walk away victorious after that show haha. (ps. Go Saints!)

So congrats Super Bowl for getting this song forever stuck in my head!
