Changes To Come!

Hey Everyone!
So first of all, I'd like to say thanks for everyone who has stuck with me throughout the first stages of my blogging journey. All your page views, all your comments, they mean the world to me so from the bottom of my heart THANK YOU. Last night was the last class of term, meaning that my class required blogging has now come to an end. But honestly, I have to say I have grown to love writing for you. Its something I look forward to... every time I read exciting music news, all I can think about is sharing it here. So, I want to say now that I definitely intend to continue writing. Every day, maybe more than once. And I hope that you will all stick with me as I undergo a few changes! Now that its no longer being graded, I feel I can take a few more liberties and I plan to do so. The blog will likely be changing format... may try my hand at some HTML codes and see what templates catch my eye. I also hope to have a couple friends help me write and post here so that I can get some more diverse genres for you. Other than that, things will likely stay the same. Nothing too drastic, but just so you're aware! Thats about it for now. Thanks again and check back soon!

New The Used Music Video

Hey Everyone!
Today, I have a video from an old favorite of mine, The Used. I used to love these guys when I was about 14/15. Cant say their newer music has been a big hit with me, but I don't hate this track. Not bad, kind of catchy. Its weird hearing Bert sing without that signature growl underlying the chorus but he does have a good voice none the less. So here it is, Empty With You by The Used off their latest album Artwork. If you like The Used, they are playing at the John Labatt Centre as an opening act for Three Days Grace on December 15th. Enjoy!

Vans Warped Tour Announcement!

Hey Everyone!
So the Vans Warped Tour made an announcement today via their awesome pit reporter, Tiff. Not only are the tour dates posted here but the BANDS are going to be announced on DECEMBER 18th! Thats not far from now, only a couple weeks. I'm really excited to see who's on the list this year. Lately it hasn't been as welcoming to older bands (they usually play the last sets of the day when half the crowd goes home) but they're still kicking and I'm hoping to see a come back. Who are you hoping to see? Tell Me, I'd love to know!

July 9, 2010 in Toronto Anyone??? See you there!

Song of the Day: The Festival Song by Good Charlotte... The first year I went to Warped Tour was 2004. Good Charlotte headlined and I remember being very excited for it. They were one of my favorite bands when I was in high school. They were my gateway band for lack of better words... I found a lot of old 80s punk through the 6 degrees of links they provided me with. It opened a whole new world for me, and I still experience a great deal of nostalgia when I hear it now. Even just bringing up this song... definitely takes me back!

Burning Empires Take Over Myspace Airwaves

Hey Everyone!
So last I mentioned, some of the members of Fall Out Boy are taking the band's hiatus as a chance to diversify and try new things. Andy Hurley, drummer, being one of them. He and some friends from Misery Signals are working on a side project called Burning Empires... and they are on fire! They have already posted a few songs to their myspace and Spin, and twitter is in an uproar. Apparently no one thought the soft spoken, easy going drummer had it in him. The hard, fast, political tunes seem to be a hit so far. A long way from the poppy emo lyric tunes he produced with FOB. He is also working on a 2nd project with members of Anthrax and Every Time I Die called, The Damned Things. I personally like it, what do you think?

Green Day Record Hit Single "21 Guns" With Musical Cast

Hey Everyone!
So Green Day announced late last month that they would be recording their single 21 Guns with the cast of the successful American Idiot Musical. A lot of people are criticizing the band, saying its far from punk rock roots... but is that true? I mean, sure. Its not exactly underground, rugged and raw the way punk once was. But at the same time, its back to Kurt Cobain's definition... "Punk is musical freedom. Its saying, doing and playing what you want". They don't care that critics and fans alike are going to point fingers and say "you're not punk", they're still doing it. And you know what? The results are pretty interesting. Plus, if you've already gone the route of making your album into a musical, why not try something like this? Take a listen here, what do you think?

Coldplay Discuss Sound For New Album

Hey Everyone!
Coldplay has come forward to discuss the kind of sound they would like to experiment with on their upcoming release. Anyone who knows Coldplay is familiar with their diverse arena rock songs that hold s certain sense of unity, urgency and passion. But the band has decided to shy away from the epic ballads on their next release, choosing instead something a little more soft spoken and stripped down. They are claiming that you will likely find a lot of basic, acoustic music instead of the Viva La Vida anthem style.

Why mess with a good thing? The band has received ample praise over the last few years of their career. Songs like Yellow, The Scientist, Fix You and their more recent Viva La Vida are stadium anthems of a different kind with their generally softer appeal, but they all hold that key recipe for success. I was never much a Coldplay fan until last year when I just decided to really listen to a whole album and came to realize, it was brilliant in its own way. There's a certain feeling that takes over as you hear a beautiful ballad like Fix You on the airwaves. Its soft and to put it simply- pretty, but so so so sad. It just takes over somewhere inside you, you can feel the raw emotion through the speaker. A far cry from my cd shelves of Bad Religion and Black Flag, it was something a little more inspired for lack of better words.

I dont mean to say that Punk wasn't/isn't inspired. Just that this band is a little more poetic than blunt in their messages. Its clear but ambiguous at the same time. Again, its just interesting and I'm interested to see what they come up with this time. Maybe something a little more reminiscent of their early work? Maybe something entirely new? Who knows! Guess we'll have to wait and see what comes up in the new year!

What do you think of Coldplay? Yay or Nay? Are you interested to hear this stripped down sound? Let me know!

Exam Dance Break Day 6

Hey Everyone!
So its day 6 of my version of the USC exam jam... the last day of class, how stoked are you?! I know I'm thrilled! I have one class (which I am currently sitting in) and one presentation to do (7pm tonight) and then... FREEDOM! Sort of... I have some other stuff to do but you know, this is the big chunk. I know some of you are also done as of tonight... lucky you! Have a celebratory drink for me, alright? Anyways, in honor of the last day of term I'm going to post TWO music videos. Thats right... TWO MUSIC VIDEOS for you to rock out to!

The first one? We Are The Champions by Queen because we have conquered yet another semester and are that much closer to graduation! YAY... I think. I have to admit I'm getting used to this lifestyle and come May, it will be hard to say goodbye to. But in the mean time, here we go... the legend, the icon... QUEEN!

The second video? Fight For Your Right To Party by The Beastie Boys because we all deserve that right after working hard for a term. All those papers, all those exams, all those hours of mind numbing lectures... its more or less over for a month so go out and fight for YOUR right to party! Plus, I have always had a little soft spot for these guys. They're quirky, they're crazy and their music is fun. So here you go, enjoy!

Thats all for now, I have a couple music news blogs in the works so stay tuned for more!
