Trent Reznor Film Score Makes Its Debut

Hey Everyone!

Wow, feels great to be back! I cant even begin to tell you how much I missed my daily writing. Alright, lets get into it! So even though Trent Reznor called it 'quits' with NIN a while back, it seems that music is truly in his blood. He cant seem to slow down, and why should he?! He's BRILLIANT.

Some of you may have heard about the new movie coming out. The Social Network- the one based on Facebook? Well, Trent Reznor is going to be the man behind the music! Trent is composing the music for the film, and I'm personally very excited to hear it. I'm predicting clean cut techno... something simple, yet fascinating. Not overpowering... just an interesting add to the background.

Avril In Wonderland... And Its Pretty Bad

Hey Everyone!

So I was aimlessly clicking away on youtube last night as I sometimes like to do, and I stumbled upon this gem here. This is Canadian "singer" Avril Lavigne's addition to the Alice In Wonderland soundtrack, "Almost Alice"... and yeah, I have to say I am not impressed. Musically, the darker tones seem somewhat fitting of the film, but the lyrics... my god, really? I think they broke into the journal of a fourteen year old girl and transcribed it to music. Every stanza rhymes perfectly with the next one- and not in a good way haha. I just find theres a huge lack of creativity which I suppose isnt new for her. To her fans, I'm sorry but this is how I feel about it and nothing more.

The video shows Avril falling down the rabbit hole to Wonderland. Shes in some weird mall goth black wedding dress, and I'm pretty sure her eye color is being enhanced by something technological or by contacts. She runs around the woods and finds the Mad Hatter, and rudely departs from the party with some yelling about taking a stand (anyone know for what exactly?). Then we have some clips from the movie, and Avril eventually finding her way out of Wonderland as the song comes to an end.

Now, I have to wonder why she is even featured on this soundtrack. What has she done lately? Nothing... well, she got a divorce. Thats about it. I was a fan when I was a kid, I'll admit it. When Complicated first came out, I thought- man, thats cool. A chick rocking a guitar, wearing guys clothes... awesome. And then I came to realize that the guitar is more of a prop than an instrument, that she doesnt write much of her own music, and the clothing is more of a label decision in an attempt to sell more records. Now she's got long curls and wears heels and dresses. I'm not buying into it- sorry. Anyways, this is once again just MY opinion. I dont expect everyone to share it, and I wont criticize people who disagree with me.

Alice In Wonderland Sountrack Track Listing Revealed

Hey Everyone!

So Alternative Press has revealed the track listing for the upcoming Alice In Wonderland soundtrack, and it appears that many familiar names grace the list. We already knew that Mark Hoppus (Blink-182) and Pete Wentz (Fall Out Boy) collaborated for a song, which we now know to be called "In Transit", but they are only one notable pair of the 16 artists/groups who make an appearance. The album will be called "Almost Alice" and has been slated for a March 2nd release date. The film is set to be released the same week, on Friday March 5th.

Like I said, some pretty decent names on that list... Robert Smith even! Not a bad soundtrack... this could be one to contend with the awards. Heres to hoping that the songs are as good as the artists.

Story Of The Year- Sidewalks

Hey Everyone!

Today my writing professor had us chose a song to describe ourselves, and it made me realize there are too many to choose from. In a previous blog of this nature, I discussed the idea of a personal soundtrack... many songs that become interwoven in the fabric of our lives. When I thought about it, I realized this one was an important track for me personally. Its clearly about some kind of relationship, but for me its so much more than just a sad love song. Its about the nostalgia of life, the way we think back and remember a more simple time and how we probably took it for granted. I always thought life would always be simple when I was a kid, but as we grow up it becomes pretty evident that things change. We can always look back from where we are, but the weeds and cracks block us from ever going back down that road. So check it out, think it over, and see what you think!

New Information On The Hoppus/Wentz Collaboration!

Hey Everyone!

Phew... just got back from the gym, kick boxing class. What a work out! Now I'm having lunch with some friends before I start up classes for the day... Organizing Post War Masculinity and Objectivity In Media Reporting. Sounds like an interesting night ahead of me! Anyways, on to business...

More information is steadily coming to light about the Mark Hoppus and Pete Wentz collaboration that I mentioned yesterday. MTV is reporting that in an email from Pete, he discussed that the two are working on song for the soundtrack of the upcoming Alice In Wonderland film being produced by Tim Burton. This only makes sense! The two are big fans (as noted by Pete's wedding theme- Alice In Wonderland inspired for sure!) As such, I expect some pretty cool work from them and I'm excited to hear it. I was skeptical but I feel like if this project is for something they are both excited about, it has the potential to be interesting and definitely worth a listen. Guess we'll be keeping our eyes and ears peeled for an early leak to see what the hype is all about!
